UZBEKISTAN RAILWAYS TRANSPORTS 4.9M PASSENGERS IN 1Q

Uzbekistan Temir Yollari (Uzbekistan Railways) transported 4.9 million passengers in the first quarter of 2016, the First Deputy Chairperson of the Board of the company Davron Dehkanov said.

He said that the company transported 16.7 million tonnes of cargo in the reporting period, which rose by 100,000 tonnes compared to the same period of 2015.

The company used investments for US$187.47 million in January-March 2016. In 2016, the company plans to utilize investments for US$799.22 million.

The resources will be directed on important investment projects. In particular, the company invests into construction of electrified railway road “Angren-Pap”, electrification of Samarkand-Bukhara line with the organization of high speed transportation of trains, construction of railway “Navoi-Kanumekh-Misken” and others.

The drilling works at the tunnel, constructed Qamchiq pass, was completed. Currently, finishing works and laying of railroads, as well as electrification are underway.

It is expected that high-speed train will be commission in the end of August 2016. It is planned to complete electrification of railway Qarshi-Termez. (uzdaily.com)
