In 2015 the total number of containers transshipped via Giurgiulesti International Free Port and delivered to or collected from the Port of Constanta by Danube Logistics SRL increased by 3% to 7,986 containers (9,912 TEU), says the port’s press center. While the number of import containers decreased due to the challenging economic environment, the number of sea containers used for the export of Moldovan goods increased by 42%.
The main destinations of these export containers shipped from Giurgiulesti International Free Port were Indonesia (41%), Malaysia (20%), USA (8%), Myanmar (7%) and Thailand (5%). Export cargos in sea containers were mostly grain, oil seeds, wine, spirits, food and wood products.
The container shipments were realized in collaboration with 13 of the world’s leading container shipping lines calling on a weekly basis on the port of Constanta most notably MSC, CMA, CSCL, COSCO, ZIM, ARKS and APL.
Thomas Moser, the Chairman of ICS Danube Logistics SRL stated: “We are very pleased about the considerable increase in the export of Moldovan goods in sea containers via Giurgiulesti International Free Port to international markets last year. Last year we managed to facilitate Moldovan exports to more than 40 countries.”
